It’s amazing what you can learn on the Internet. I was surfing for something else and found an article from a couple years ago that stated that a crew was going to the property outside York where the Harley Factory sits to look for abandoned munitions. The Harley facility occupies buildings that used to house the York Safe and Lock Company and then the York Naval Ordinance Plant. During WW II the plant built the U.S. model of the famous Bofors anti-aircraft guns there. These guns were invented in Sweden by a company owned by Alfred Nobel, yes the Peace Prize is named after him. AMF bought the plant in 1964 and produced its lines of snowmobiles, golf carts, bowling equipment and less ceremoniously, naval shells. After AMF purchased Harley-Davidson, they moved final motorcycle production to the York facility in 1973.
