The Haley Owners Group has announced that it’s 2009 National Rally will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma June 26 -27 2009. The H.O.G. membership will meet at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City for rally activities. There will be 2 stages for musical performances, plus attendees will be able to take demo rides on the 2009 models plus watch motorcycle stunt and drill teams perform.
The 2009 American Muscle Tour will be held July 14 - 19th. The ride will wind from the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There is a 1000 participant capacity for this ride.

It’s amazing what you can learn on the Internet. I was surfing for something else and found an article from a couple years ago that stated that a crew was going to the property outside York where the Harley Factory sits to look for abandoned munitions. The Harley facility occupies buildings that used to house the York Safe and Lock Company and then the York Naval Ordinance Plant. During WW II the plant built the U.S. model of the famous Bofors anti-aircraft guns there. These guns were invented in Sweden by a company owned by Alfred Nobel, yes the Peace Prize is named after him. AMF bought the plant in 1964 and produced its lines of snowmobiles, golf carts, bowling equipment and less ceremoniously, naval shells. After AMF purchased Harley-Davidson, they moved final motorcycle production to the York facility in 1973.

Well it seems the financial crunch we are experiencing here in the good old U.S. is starting to be felt elsewhere. Harley-Davidson announced that it’s third quarter net income fell 37.1% compared to the same quarter last year. This was due to weak sales in the European market. Revenue from motorcycle sales was down 11.1%, Parts and Accessories was up 3% and Merchandise was up 1% for the quarter.

Harley-Davidson has announced that it has started it’s “Build It and Win It” Sweepstakes. All you have to do is go to their website, fill out a profile and then start building your 2009 model virtual bike. You get to add or change most of the options on the bike. Then when you’re satisfied with how the bike looks to you, park it in your virtual garage and then you’re entered into the contest. Now don’t get all upset Harley-Davidson is not moving out of Milwaukee. Nor is it moving out of its York, Pennsylvania Plant. In a recent announcement Harley said that it is moving it’s vehicle testing from Mesa, Arizona to Yucca, Arizona. They had been testing at the General Motors Mesa facility but that is being sold by GM.
