The 7th Annual Barrington Concours d’Elegance will feature a lineup of rare Vincent motorcycles, widely considered to be among the finest motorcycles ever built, on July 12-14, 2013, at the Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, Ill. This collection will include the famous “Vincati” (which was built by “Big” Sid Biberman and his son, Matthew Biberman) a fusion of the Vincent Black Shadow and the Ducati GT. The Barrington Concours d’Elegance will honor “Big Sid” with a Special Recognition Award for contributions to the motorcycling world. Guidance
“Vincent motorcycles represent the golden age of British motorcycles,” said David Cooper, Concours Co-Chair and Chief Executive Officer. “This collection of Vincents demonstrates an ingenuity and mechanical craftsmanship that’s virtually unmatched. We’re especially excited to include the ‘Vincati’, which captured the imagination of enthusiasts through the book, ‘Big Sid’s Vincati,’ written by Matthew Biberman.”
There will be 7 Vincent motorcycles on display complemented by the Biberman collection of 5 bikes, including the unique Vincati, and 2 record setting race bikes. This will be the first time they have shown all five machines at one venue. This display will be flanked by 12 significant motorcycles from other historic makers.
Following a life-threatening heart attack, Big Sid was challenged by Matthew to find the will to recover so they could build a Vincati together. An extremely rare fusion of two of the best motorcycles ever built, the Vincati represents five years of hard work by the pair. To build the motorcycle, they took a Vincent engine and mounted it to a modified 1973 Ducati GT chassis, which delivered powerful and impressive results.
“Vincent motorcycles are such an important part of American motorcycling history,” said Matthew. “From breaking the World Speed Record at 185 mph in 1955, to being featured with Rollie Free in one of motorcycling’s most iconic images of all time. We’re proud that our Vincati will be featured in the lineup amongst other fantastic motorcycles at the Barrington Concours. These motorcycles are not only beautiful, they’re also a joy to ride.”
As a part of the display, historical information regarding the design, mechanical specifications and company history will also be available to educate guests at the Concours.
The Barrington Concours d’Elegance is a year-long celebration of automotive excellence featuring more than ten events. The Vincent motorcycles will be displayed at the Concours’ capstone event on July 12-14, along with 100 of the world’s finest and rarest vehicles, including a collection of Duesenbergs, Avions Voisins and Indy cars.
