While most viewers realize that the most of the members of the FX Channel show “Sons of Anarchy” are actors playing bikers, at least one of them is the real deal. Rusty Coones, who plays the character “Quinn”, is a patch holding 1%er. Originally hired by SoA Producer Kurt Sutter to be a consultant on SoA, the multi talented Coones not only landed an acting gig, but the studio has used 3 songs from his rock-metal band Attika 7 on the show.
Coones also owns Illusion Motorsports, a renowned custom motorcycle shop in Westminster California. Illusion created the “Hellrazor” series motorcycle which mated elements of Jessie James West Coast Chopper parts with Illusion components. The Illusion motorcycles are fully CARB compliant, California legal, completely insurable and come with a full factory backed warranty and an Illusion 17 digit VIN. These motorcycles feature Brembo brakes and a 114 cubic inch S&S engine made to Illusion specifications.
Sutter commissioned an Illusion Hellrazor bike of his own and eventually he and the FX Channel had Illusion Motorsports build a motorcycle to be auctioned with the proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors charity. The build was featured in the DVD extras for the show’s third season. The charity SoA Illusion Custom turned out to be a double barrel blast when the first winner let the bike be auctioned again for charity. The second winner paid even more for the bike, but kept the prize.
So the next time you watch SoA and see the character “Quinn” who is the president of a SoA Nomads Chapter ride up on an Illusion custom you’ll know its Rusty Coones being himself. Now that’s real “reality” TV.
