Norton Motorcycles has announced that they are preparing to start production of certain models for export to the United States. This announcement comes after Norton received the EPA’s Certificate of Conformity for its’ model year 2013 Commando 961 series. This completes the EPA’s certification process for the U.S. of the Norton Commando 961 Cafe Racer, 961 Sport and 961 SE models.
Norton had previously announced the successful conclusion of its own US labs durability tests to ensure compliance with EPA and CARB exhaust, noise and evaporative emissions. The EPA Certificate of Conformity is confirmation that Norton has met the US federal emission standards compliance and testing.
While this is good news another major hurdle for Norton will be the California Air Resources Board (CARB) review and approval. CARB certification usually follows the in about 2 or 3 months after the EPA’s. After approval the Norton factory, which is located within the Donington Park Racing Circuit, could begin production of 2013 models for the U.S. and Canada.
