For all you folks down in the Southwestern US here’s a chance for you to help some of your fellow Americans. The kids at Rock n Roll High School are partnering up with the town of Gilbert and the Red Cross to sponsor Rockn 4 Recovery. Rockn 4 Recovery is a concert based community charity event being held to benefit the victims of the recent storms, including megastorm Sandy, that hit the Northeast states. You can join them in Gilbert at the San Tan Village Food Court on Saturday, December 15 from noon to 6 PM. Performing at the event will be more than a dozen bands like Zero Zero, the Jack Rollers, Johnny Zapp and the winners of the Alice Cooper Christmas Pudding Opening Act competition, Smokestack. Meanwhile area restaurants will serve ‘taste of’ samples to shoppers at the Southeast Valleys most popular mall during the busiest time of the year! In addition to the bands, food and business booths, there will be comedians, fire, police and military vehicles, raffles and there’s a rumor that the jolly old man in red may make a visit.
One of the performers is IronWorks’ friend Johnny Zapp and here’s what he has to say, “Well folks, after “retiring” from playing live over 5 years ago, I always said my arm could be twisted for the right cause and with the right cats in the band. Done and done. Rock n Roll High School in partnership with the American Red Cross and the Town of Gilbert have put together a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. I will be playing a 20 minute set with an all-star band featuring Matt aka: Fido of The Jack Rollers, Dead City Love and my frequent collaborator, on guitar and vocals, Connecticut native Chad MacDonald of Gene Loves Jezebel, Bullet Boys, Jani Lane, Hookers N’ Blow and Jeordie on bass, and on drums…man if there is a gigging band in Phoenix, this guy has played with them! Long time friend, occasional band mate, former KUPD on-air personality and just all around great guy, Larry Corbett. We will be playing with Phoenix band Zero Zero featuring members of the Sonic Thrills and the Love Me Nots and the Jack Rollers will also be performing their own set. This is a family event with lots of stellar area restaurants participating offering tastings as well as city fire and police departments, Santa Claus, etc. Please come out, say hello, catch a rare Johnny Zapp set, enjoy the festivities and most importantly, come together to help out our friends back East.”
