A California jury in El Cajon has awarded a man $7.5 million in a lawsuit for injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash Aug. 30, 2007 in San Diego. The injuries occurred when the driver of an auto dealer’s courtesy shuttle van made a left turn into the path of the motorcyclist. The collision caused the rider to be thrown over the handlebars and when he landed he suffered fractures and crushing injuries to his pelvic area. Doctors were able to successfully do reconstructive surgery but the procedures left the victim permanently ‘dismembered’ by more than an inch.
Since the accident the victim’s wife has divorced him and his doctors are unsure if he will be able to have children due to the injuries. His lawyer states, “It’s going to affect his relationships and his self-esteem in the future.” Talk about pain and suffering. A spokesperson for the car dealer, the main defendant in the suit, said they will appeal the verdict. BTW, the driver of the van at the time was allegedly a non-U.S. citizen with an expired driver’s license who had never been trained as a shuttle driver.
