Potter’s Street Digger

To say that California has some testy, even strange, motor vehicle laws is an understatement. Despite having resided in California for many years, Don Potter forgot that fact, so he was a bit perplexed when he went to register a 2005 XL1200R that he bought in Arizona for his daughter Sarah who lived in the Golden State. “I did the typical bolt-on stuff,” Don said about the mildly modified XL that he presented to his daughter. “But when I took it to her in California, they wouldn’t let her register it.” A quirky stipulation about mileage—the bike didn’t have enough on it to qualify as a used model—disallowed the registration. So the bike remained in Arizona, where Don put some miles on it. But it wasn’t long before, “Someone ran into it,” said Don, prompting him to repair and restore the XL into the bike you see here.

I have watched this bike over a few years change into a fine piece of art. Custom bike builders can only dream of deloping a hand made bike like this.
That’s my dad!
