No Holiday School Break For Ryan Mackey

While most students are home from school for the holidays, Ryan Mackey is hard at work with a different kind of studying. As the winner of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America’s “Youth Program Basketcase Contest” he’s now in Carl’s Cycle Supply in Aberdeen, South Dakota learning how to build an old style Bobber. Ryan had the winning essay in the contest and his prize was the opportunity to take a basketcase 1942 H-D WLA and build it into a Bobber just like the retuning GIs did after the war. Overseeing and tutoring Ryan in this project is Matt Olsen. If Ryan completes the project in the required amount of time he gets to keep the bike! You can follow Ryan’s progress at “The Birth of a Bobber” on the AMCA website www.antiquemotorcycle.org

  1. I remember reading about this, and then pasting the information on how kids could enter the contest on my blog…was that back around Jan of of this year? ’09?

I’m really stoked the AMCA is not only preserving the bikes of yesterday, but also enthusing kids to love and appreciate the wheels of our fathers….

    AMCA…you guys have my heart…god bless ya…
