Myrtle Beach MC Rallies, R.I.P.

Well I guess the good people of Myrtle Beach have spoken and there will be no more motorcycle rallies. In a statement the mayor, John Rhodes, said that there would not be any rallies this year or in the future within the city limits of Myrtle Beach. Even though there isn’t going to be any rallies the restrictive ordinances they recently passed will still be in effect.

They have set up a website for bikers where you can read the mayor’s statement and see where he says that neither he nor Myrtle Beach is “anti-biker or anti-motorcycle“. The site also states that some of the nearby towns are thinking about banning or restricting the rallies.  Here’s the address for the mayor’s statement: http://myrtlebeachbikerinfo.com/message.html

Remember if you still plan on going down that the statement ending the rallies and those ordinances are for within the city limits of Myrtle Beach.

  1. Why doesn’t it surprise me that the very first rule concerns loud pipes?

Why doesn’t it surprise me that several rules are aimed at alcohol problems?

Will anyone be able to accurately track the economic impact this has on the community?

  2. All these new rules were in place months ago. I have received several e-mails stating that the rallies are still going to be held in surrounding areas but without official recognition by the City of Myrtle Beach. Just watch your Ps & Qs, if you want to get arrested they will oblige you.

    Snake,
I went to MB once and I would never go again. (to a bike rally there). It seemed as if everything and everyone was out to get as much money from the riders as possible. Just about everything was ridiculously overpriced. I for one will not miss it’s passing.
Bike week in Daytona (I think) it’s on its way out as well. My brother lives in Daytona Beach and he tells me that every year more and more of the locals go away for bike week.
It’s a good thing that Ormond Beach has stepped in and I think that in a few years it will be Bike Week in Ormond Beach.
You Guys/gals take care and ride easy, and if your at Bike Week, and you see a guy rideing his bike, wearing a black leather jacket, that’ll be me. (smile)

  4. I have friends who have motorcycle-related businesses in Myrtle Beach and I really feel bad for them. They could probably use the income that a good rally in the area would generate – and they want the bikers to come there. But the “officials” have decided not to sanction the rally so these folks lose out. If you plan to go anyway, keep in mind that many local people in Myrtle still appreciate us and want our business

    MS,
Thank you for that. Yes, I’m sure that there are more than just a few venders who rely on the tourist dollars. And Myrtle Beach is a tourist destination.
But when I was there, (for the Rally) I felt that I was getting hosed just about everywhere I went. That definetly put a crimp in the experiance.
