Motorcycle Cannonball Run

cannonball

Move over Burt Reynolds, a real cannonball is coming through. It’s not going to be done by a bunch of gearheads in souped up cars, but by a bunch of leather tough riders on motorcycles. And not by riders on the fancy touring bikes of today but on antique machines, real antiques. It’s the Motorcycle Cannonball, a cross country ride on pre-1916 bikes. The ride will try to emulate the feat of crossing the USA from San Fransisco to New York that was first done in 1903 by George Wyman on a California Motorcycle.

For 12 days next September riders will be attempting to repeat the feat on 1 of 4 proposed routes. The final route chosen will not have any dirt roads, like the original, and no interstates so it will mostly be on back scenic roads. Just like the old days. Do you have a pre-1916 bike? Do you think it could handle it? Do you think you could handle it? After all I know a lot of so called “bikers” who wouldn’t last one day on the trip, on their brand new bike.
