Close to Home

This weeks entry hits pretty close to home. The bike is equipped with an 89 ci. S&S Stroker engine, SuperTrapp 2-1, Hawg Halter brakes with RoadLok, Progressive 440 rear shocks, Patriot dual fork springs, Klock Werks flare windshield, Paul Yaffe bagger ape hanger bars and Conti tires. Obviously we’re still having some paint issues but I wanted to be like a NASCAR driver and get all the sponsors mentioned. You Be The Judge!

  1. Get rid of the molded clunkifed parts…and I can see a real winner shaping up there.

Back in the late ’70′s I owned a “sleeper” FLH. We stroked her out 106″. External oil lines for the jugs…mapped her out…she could run like a raped ape. It was fun, sitting on the line at a light…then leaving the others behind at the line….oh but she vibrated and that huge faring was almost a killer…we got off the line and held the lead ….she had power for low end…and gears for the top end …no one expected that…

This bike has been modified to keep up with the big boys too…but I’m cynical of all that molded stuff on her…make her simple boys…make her simple….the admiration you’ll get from a bike that is bagger AND simple…AND FAST…. will last longer!

  2. Ummm………NO! (sorry!)

Funny thing with a bagger, there is so much square footage of painted surface that anything but a simple paint job looks crazy busy.

Hmm, Sam, I think you need more black – I say you grab a rattle can of BBQ Black (pulled pork finish) right NOW and black out the engine, then the silver of your fancy pants paint job wont fight the silver finish of your very fancy engine…lol

    happy Friday!

  4. The original concept I had of the project was that the 20 year old black with black engine bike would be like a reverse image of it’s self. Sort of like a photographic negative. So the black parts became silver and most of the chrome/aluminum parts went to black. I originally just wanted big ass metal flake but was convinced to add a design to make the bike “pop”. Ghost flames were my choice but painters will be painters and that’s also why there’s a red fairing and black fender on it.
NOW, I put my bike up for scrutiny, even though it’s not done, how about YOU? Send in some good pictures of your pride and joy so we can have a look at it.
BTW back in 1988 when I bought “Midnight Rambler” my hair was all black, now there’s a lot of gray/silver mixed in with what’s left when I ride the new “After Midnight”.
