While at the 100th Anniv. Celebration in Milwaukee, I recall seeing a sea of these brand new Anniversary Models. They were everywhere and it seemed as if half the H-D nation had at once, upgraded to a new machine with this paint scheme. Exciting and strange all at the same time…
I was feelin’ decidedly downtown with “BigBlue, the lardass bagger”, my road worn, hi-mileage, ever faithful 1991 FLHTC. It would be 5 more years until I upgraded to a TwinCam, my first new H-D.
I felt bad for the sporty buyers, paying a premium for the ;03 regalia, and then learning that the ’04′s were rubber mounted (finially)
but, I did have the pleasure of putting 6K miles on an ’03 Ultra and was sorry to give it back to the fleet center.
that ’03 is a LONG WAY from that 1976 Anniversary FLH Shovel!!
I loved my ’72 Shovel, it took me allot of places and through many good times, but the NEWER twin cam is certainly a much more enjoyable touring bike.

they ran that model year for 14 months!!
