At The Movies
For all you fans of blood and guts action films from Quentin Tarantino here’s his latest project, HELL RIDE. Tarantino is listed as the Executive Producer of this movie by Director Larry Bishop (who also wrote and acts in the film) which looks like an updated version of those ’60s Drive In “B” biker flicks. So you know there will be lots of blood, bullets, bikes and babes in the movie. The plot is that Bishop’s motorcycle gang goes on a rampage of retribution against a rival club after they kill one of the gangs old ladies. Michael Madsen, Dennis Hopper and David Carradine portray some of the patch holders in the movie. For more info or watch a trailer, go to www.hellridemovie.com. Editors note – I think I’ll wait till it’s on late night TV.
Small Screen
Here we go again, the FX Network premieres the Sons Of Anarchy on Wednesday, September 3rd. The Sons Of Anarchy is a motorcycle gang based in a small secluded California town. The members of the club nobly try to protect the town from several rival ethnic gangs that the SOA have dealings with. They also have to deal with rivalries within the club, law enforcement officials and trying to keep their day jobs. It’s a tough job but somebody has gotta do it. Now if they would just bring back Then Came Bronson.
How about some reality, TV that is. To be honest I really hate reality TV shows. I don’t know whose reality it is but it’s not mine. The lone show that I watch is Long Way Down on the Reality Network. Long Way Down is the saga of two guys riding their bikes through Africa accompaneed by a film crew. Bad roads, no roads, rain, heat, desert, jungle, wars and wild critters don’t stop this bunch from doing their thing. Now if they were just riding Harleys.

The old “B” movies i.e. Bruce Dern were so bad they were good. Easy Rider was the first decent biker movie made at the time. While these new batch of biker flicks are entertaining, I think the likes of “Wild Hogs” are “somewhat” a more realistic view, gang brawl notwithstanding, of the urban biker of today.
