Real Time by James Solberg

All of you who have read my work in IronWorks magazine know that I love music. I start all my columns with some verse from a song that usually relates to the subject matter of the column. I’ve been fond of music since a little kid my passion for motorcycles came later.

Now I like all genres of music but the blues rates near the top with me. My buddy Paul Holdsworth turned me onto James Solberg and sent me one of his CDs, “Real Time”. It has twelve blues and rockin’ blues tracks on it and I just can’t quit listening to it.

James Solberg started out playing in bars at the age of 13 or 14 and quit school at 15 to perform and roam the country so you know he’s paid his dues. Not only is he an accomplished vocalist but he’s a super “axe” man. So much so that he’s jammed with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elvin Bishop, Muddy Waters and Paul Butterfield. Not to shabby a line up there. I found this video on YouTube of James playing with Luther Allison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKH1wDl8GyA

Another facet of James is that he is just as talented working on motorcycles as he is playing the blues. Bikes have been part of his life almost as long as music. He worked as a machinist and mechanic in a Harley shop for awhile before returning to the road to play music. When not playing he runs a shop with his son where he does work on Indian motorcycles. He’s got 250,000 miles on his Chief and parked beside it is a 92″ stroked Chief Bobber. Like I said not to shabby, so if you’re into the blues check out “Real Time”. If your an iTunes user, you can purchase his latest album in the iTunes music store.
