Here is the ultimate vehicle for all of you who like to fly on your motorcycle, a motorcycle that REALLY flies. Butterfly LLC of Carter, Oklahoma is producing the Super Sky Cycle. A three wheeled motorcycle that converts into a Gyroplane so you can avoid those nasty traffic jams without having to split lanes.

A ROTAX engine powers the Sky Cycle which is capable of 55mph on the highway and 100 mph in the air with a range of 300 miles. The vehicle has a 7.5 gallon fuel tank plus a reserve tank. When stored in the garage or running down the highway as a trike the top rotor folds up. When you want to fly you extend the rotor which provides unpowered lift. A propeller behind the motor pushes the vehicle through the air and on the ground.

The Super Sky Cycle comes as a kit that you put together. Common sense says that, unlike the kiddies toys at Christmas, it behooves you to carefully follow the instructions. The company says that with some mechanical aptitude and basic tools just about anyone can assemble the kits. One of the cool options is a set of late 1950s Cadillac style big tail fins and brake lights.

The Super Sky Cycle must be registered and licensed as an experimental home built Aircraft and a home built three wheeled motorcycle. You will also need to have both a motorcycle license and a pilots license. Before you buy you better check all the laws in your state! One thing, you don’t have to worry about seeing me on one of these. I’m acutely acrophobic.
