I know there are people out there wondering “what the hell is an INTERMOT 2008?”. No it’s not a make and model year bike of some new foreign motorcycle company. It is foreign, but it’s a big motorcycle trade show/rally held in Cologne, Germany. Daytona Beach has its “Biketoberfest”, Cologne has “INTERMOT”.
Some of you are wondering “why mention this European event ?”. Partly it is because the blog wants to enlarge your data base in this global economy. After all I’m certain that some products introduced there will make their way into the U.S. market. Speaking of the U.S., the winning custom bike builder gets to compete at Sturgis next year. Also American companies like Harley-Davidson / Buell and Victory Motorcycles (see Euro Victory post) were present there.
They were among 1068 companies from 36 countries who had exhibits there, that’s impressive. Even more impressive is that over 200,000 motorcycle enthusiasts from 110 countries showed up at INTERMOT. I think that qualifies it as a major motorcycle event no matter where it was held. Maybe some of them thought they were going to Octoberfest.
We had a report from INTERMOT, how about some reports on the IW Ridge Run?

If it is a trade show, how is it that rallyists/non-trade people get in to see stuff?
How does that event work?

Quesy,
I think the show is open to the public – not just industry people like the V-Twin show in CIncinnati.
BTW, Mike Seate was in Germany right before the show opened and got in for a look around the day before with some other moto-journs. He’ll have a report in the next issue of IW.

Hey QuesyRider, I guess this is how it works…

RJ, you should check out Ironworks magazine. Mike Seate writes for them a lot. Along with Sam. Personally I read Sam, Mike and Dain’s articles every issue. I like their style, but Mike is a good guy from what I can tell. Seems to be more on the speed side of things, and if I remember correcly doesn’t believe loud pipes save lives but I won’t hold that against him. I had never checked up on his “day job”, thanks for the link.
