Digging Up Bones

Make no bones about it I’m a big fan of the Harley-Davidson Cross Bones. They take me back to those thrilling days of yesteryear when bike riders would make their bike like this. Every time I see one I have to look at it. I had one follow me the other day and when he finally pulled up alongside at a stop light I told him how much I liked the bike. He said he took one look at it in the dealership and had to have it. I told him I had a bike like that thirty-some years ago but it had a Panhead motor in it.

I saw the 2008 Bones pictured above when I stopped at DuBois H-D in Pennsylvania recently. When I saw the bikes upswept pipes “Blue’s Theme” from the movie THE WILD ANGELS started playing in my head. The owner of this bike definitely has it going on. Harley should have waited a few years and designated this springer as “THE BAD BOY”.

  1. Here are a couple photo galleries for the 2008 Cross Bones: One, Two

  2. I think the Motor Company has done an excellent job of bringing the consumer a vintage-style bike without the hassle of owning a vintage motorcycle. The 2008 Cross Bones is the perfect bridge between bobber and chopper and (to me) really captures the spirit of what it means to ride. Two thumbs up to Harley!
