Big Bopper Wins $40k Chopper

How would you like to win a $40,000 Viper Vendetta chopper for just hitting a slow pitch softball home run? Well that’s exactly what Denny Crine did, but it wasn’t at your basic neighborhood field after a keg league game. Denny and four other bashers committed mayhem on some softballs during a competition at the “Power Stadium Tour” for the World Softball League. These guys were pumping out 450 foot home runs at the Minneapolis Metro dome, a major league stadium using slow pitched softballs. Most major leaguers can’t hit a grooved fastball that far. The bike Denny won was a Viper Vendetta. Viper bikes use a billet 152 c.i. short stroke engine. They also use patented frames, air suspensions, swing arms and rubber mounting systems on their bikes. The bike had a unique WSL paint scheme and graphics done by Airea 5150. The Vendetta is one of three models that Viper builds, for more info www.vipermotorcycle.com

Back twenty-five or so years ago when I managed slow pitch teams in local leagues and tournaments, all we ever won was a few bucks, a chintzy trophy and maybe a keg. The keg was the most coveted prize.

  1. Chalk one up for Denny! You lucky bastard, I’ve always wanted to ride a Viper. After all, they are one of a handful of truly American-made cruisers. How do they compare? Anyone own a Viper? I remember IronWorks wrote a small review in a low budget/big budget story a while back (I have it around here somewhere), but if memory serves me correctly (which it is known to fail from time to time) it seemed more like a press release than a true review.

  2. Softball is for women!

  3. Hey Andrew, show some love man. Both Sam and I have played our fair share of softball. You wouldn’t be calling us women would you? Ha! LOL

  4. To Roadrat. Go to Viper’s website and click on News. There is a ride review there.

  5. Andrew when I was a high school baseball player I thought softball was soft too. Then after playing it with some guys who just missed getting to the majors I changed my mind. BTW can you hit a softball 400-450 feet?

  6. Not to get off the real topic here, but I got into softball while in college. It’s no girl sport. And for the record, I’d rather play guys in slow-pitch than those gals and their 100 MPH underhanded evil.

Back on track, the review by Bryan Harley is good, and I agree with a lot of what he had to say. I’ll add that personally, I’ve heard good things about Viper Motorcycles and would recommend anyone in the market be sure to check them out.
