It was recently announced that Wilwert’s Harley-Davidson of Dubuque, Iowa will be going out of business due to foreclosure. A bank was awarded a judgment of over $1.6 million in early November and a legal notice in the local paper announced a Sheriff’s sale of the property scheduled for January 15, 2009. Customers were greeted with a sign stating the shop was going out of business.
Owner Clay Wilwert has stated that he was still trying to avoid foreclosure and keep the shop open. If it does close the Harley-Davidson Shop of Galena in Galena, Illinois would have to close to because it is considered a branch store. The expanded store in Dubuque opened in 2003 so was it bad business practices or the bad economy that caused the business’s financial difficulties? Can/will it be an omen for other shops?

Would they be selling his inventory as well or just the property?
